Rental companies should advise of laws
Regarding Tom Haggrerty’s letter of Jan. 20: We have (more than) enough road signs now. To add more regarding the use of seat belts and cellphones would not be necessary with the co-operation of the rental car companies.
At the time of rental, the agent could easily attach a memo to the outside jacket containing the contract, explaining Hawaii laws on seat belt and cellphone use. This would be a win-win situation for everyone and at a very minimal cost. Using seat belts would help protect them in case of an accident and not using cellphones help in eliminating accidents.

Residents shouldn’t pay taxes until well works
Ocean View well — not. Why is it the only well that is not working? Do we not pay taxes in Ocean View? I want to start a tax revolt. Withhold all taxes until the well is up and running.
Everything is built for this well. The tank sits there half-full — or maybe I should say half-empty. I’m sure the county will have some bull excuse, that’s all we ever hear from it. I’m tired of this bull.
Of course, the county will blame it on HELCO, and HELCO will say not our fault and then the county will say nothing we can do, our hands are tied and here we go in another circle for another year or two or three or more.
We have to drive 35 miles or more roundtrip just to get drinking water. Do you know how much money we are wasting in fuel, wear and tear and time every day just to drink water. That’s right, we are second-class citizens and don’t need the basics, like water, because we knew there was no water when we bought out there. Bull.
If you want our tax money, give us water.
